I have a 14.1hh native pony/cob cross, 17 years old, not very forward going but will make an effort for things he enjoys (nice hacks with chance to trot or even better a bit of canter, low scale jumping). For the first time since I've had him in 9 years we are the most unfit we've ever been as our riding has been curtailed a lot over the last 6-8 months. He didn't have a great winter with various ailments so pulled back on the amount of hacking I would usually do (which was probably only 2-3 times a week due to working and only being able to hack at weekends) to give him some time to recuperate and also where I kept him the school was unuseable for much more than 20 mins at a time as so deep/awful.

This summer I didn't get much hacking in before we moved to a new yard and normally I would hack 4-5 times a week. I've moved him to a lovely new yard where he's losing weight and it has a good school (though I can't afford lessons at the moment) and we're just starting to hack out with folks and I'm getting in the school for short sessions when I can though it's busy. But I need a good weekly plan of what to put in place split between schooling and hacking across a week and how much to build up by each week. Hacks around where we are great for hill work. I'm just conscious the light is starting to go earlier and earlier each week so evening hacks will be curtailed in a month or so's time and want to make the most of what we can do before on a more restricted winter riding regime. Also I hope to get a sharer so he'll have more opportunity to be ridden. And get a better job that pays more so I can get straight and try and have a monthly lesson at least :)
