Do any of you struggle with this for the first time?!

All of my horses have always been ridden in a flash or cavesson bridle and I've used Grackles but not actually fitted them initially first time! I'm going to try my horse in a Grackle for a number of reasons but get a little bit confused as to whether it's all sat in the right place! I also wonder if half the reason is because I'm not used to seeing her in a Grackle!!

I have one with the rings - should they be sat on very edge of cheek bone? Also how tight should it actually be? Pics would be fab if you have them!

(not my pic) I always fit them like this however...

ETA: I fit the bottom with tightness of a flash and the top strap "snugly".

The picture shows the 'Mexican' Grackle reasonably well fitted. The rings should be higher up so that the front strap does not catch on the projecting cheek bone.

The upper strap in the front is in a lovely spot, but the buckle on the lower strap is poorly placed as it could easily chafe the corner of the mouth.

As with any noseband you should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between horse and noseband to enable the horse to relax its jaw.

As the noseband straps can slide through the padded crossover point, fitting the upper and lower nosebands at different tensions is not necessary as when the horse opens its mouth the straps will slide and even the tension out.

Now, 1st picture above for me, the rings are too high..

The rings are supposed to be high otherwise the front strap catches on the projecting cheek bone.

EquiEquestrian556 you need to have the back strap go below the cheek, currently your strap is too high and will restrict the throat. The initial photo posted by the OP shows the back strap in the correct place.

It is below the cheek bone, it just looks like it isn't due to the lighting in the angle of which the photo was taken ;)

If you're struggling you may have to try a couple of different brands to get one to sit correctly on your horse, I had a nightmare trying to fit one to mine, tried so many and she doesn't have an unusual head! Great advice above re fitting so I won't repeat x
