Hi, can anyone advise me on how these should fit in the mouth - should there be any clearance either side, or should they fit closer to the cheeks? I recently bought an NS Tranz Angled Lozenge Baucher in a 5.5 inch for my mare, she usually takes a 5.25 inch Happy Mouth. The NS is lovely, but seems to have a lot of play on each side. Is it incorrect for it to be like this? Ideally I'd like to get a 5.25 inch NS but this one was very reasonably priced, it will go back on Ebay if it isn't right.
Most cheaper bits only come in 1/2 inch increments anyway I see. She has an issue with being an older mare that sometimes food gets stuck behind her teeth which causes the cheeks to 'pouch' sometimes (my EDT advised me to rinse her mouth out as often as poss with a hose in between visits but there is no chance she'll let me do this without sedation). I therefore have to take this in to consideration when using 'cheeked' bits.
She is usually hacked out bitless in a hackamore for faster work but I would like to do more schooling work with her, hence the bit research. Anyone have any advice?
