Ok so before I start I am not a complete novice I had my last horse for 5 yrs and he had two bridles which I fitted and where fine.

I had to retire him and now have a new horse, today I put him in a full size snaffle bridle and plain eggbutt snaffle. However I noticed than after I had adjusted the cheek pieces so the but sat correctly, the cheek pieces seemed quite loose as in quite a big gap if you pulled them outwards away from the horses face. Obviously if I tightned them then the bit would be too high and horse would be smiling so should I try a Cob size bridle ?
