Hi,
I thought I should introduce myself
I'm Immy and I have a 13.2 Norwegian Fjord called Pretty;D I like to do showing with her (only local level at the moment) But I hope to do some higher level stuff in the future. We would do jumping but she is a stubborn little...

She isn't hogged at the moment as I never had the heart to do it, Although it has been shortened a lot (It used to be really long:) )
I assume they have to be hogged for higher levels, but can anyone confirm this:)
Also, does anyone know of a professional in Warwickshire who would be willing to come and do the initial hog, and I could maintain it my self after?

Here's a picture of her :D .
Do any of you have pictures of your fjords that you show :D?
Hope to hear from you all :D x

This pic was taken In later winter / spring. So Her mane is shorter now:)

Sorry I know nothing about fjords but just wanted to say how lovely she was - that's the first fjord I've seen without the traditional "cut mane" looks lovely. No idea how they achieve the traditional look I'm only used to hogging cobs!

Ahaa Thank you (: I sort of understand how.
But I'd rather have a piece of mind and have a professional do it :P
It would be so much easier if they could be hogged like cobs (:
Thanks again x

ohhh hes lovely!!!!!! I perhaps dont agree with him being tied to a tree, but hes lovely all the same! I've only ever encountered one of these ponies, and he was so nice to deal with, so kind and well mannered :) x .. the rest I have no advice lol! hogging isn't hard though, you can't really go too wrong with it!!

eta - by the sounds of the other posts, fjords are different to hogging cobs so ignore me :) lol

Oh Yes - The tree was for only very short amount of time;) for Picture;)

The fjord mane is done with scissors and is shaped. I just worry I would get the shape wrong :/.

Thank you again :) x

Hi:)

Your girl is lovely! I have had my fjord 2 years now, and I cut his mane myself. I use scissors - pick where you want the mane longest on her neck, and cut it to about 4 inches there. Work up and down the next making it into a cresent shape. You can leave the white the same length as the black if you want to, but you can shorten the white below the black if you want to. Alternatively, hog in the autumn and trim it as it grows - you should have a nice crescent by the spring!

I do all sorts with my fjord. We do local level showing, TREC, and we are off to do a small ODE next month

Once I get back onto photobucket (forgot sodding password:rolleyes:) I'll post some pics:p

Ooh! Good luck!. Did you buy yours 'cut' or did you take it off yourself ;D?
Do you think Its hard? I really dont' want to mess it up :L x

Showing fjords is very difficult. There's not much you can actually do with them in the means of proper showing, i.e. ridden or in-hand.

I have 2 and like yours, they are a bit stubborn when it comes to jumping.
I mainly do in-hand with my older fjord, Minty, because he's a bit of a pain to ride in public and likes to embarass me. we do things like in-hand horse, in-hand turnout. you could probably do riding club, turnout, but nothing like M&M, hunters etc. trying to find showing classes suitable for fjords is very difficult.

and as for the mane - if your fjord's mane is long the easiest way to get it to stand up would be to hog it off completely and then trim it as it grows. it's not that difficult, there's a few tutorial videos on youtube that are very good.

She is gorgoeus and I do like the long mane even though I love them with the trimmed look as they should be. I had a part bred and though mum was hogged ( she was Irish ) I never hogged him because his was about 5 different shades of blond.

Mine came with long mane, but I chopped it off after having him a week:D He really does look better with it short. I set on with a pair of scissors and chopped it all. The first trim was a bit pants, but I'm getting better. You could hog it now and just trim it as it grows back in.:)

There are some good instructional videos on you tube. Mine came with a long mane. I have been cutting it for about 4 years now, I have messed it up a few times but it soon grows back. Your fjord is very very pretty.

I used to work at a riding school who had a lovely little Fjord mare called Kari. YO used to trim her mane with clippers, right down to trimming the White to show the black stripe. I was in awe! I've never seen such delicate clipping! Yours is the first I've seen with a mane and I think she looks gorgeous!
