Madam is holding her weigh amazingly well on adlib hay at night, reasonable grazing for this time of year in the day and about 1kg happy hoof (or possibly hoofkind) chaff, 1kg of alfa-beet and about 1/2 a mug of veg oil split over two feeds a day.
Have had to recently switch to shavings from straw as I ran out! and can't get hold of any for a bit and the last to days it has taken me an hour to poo pick her stable (she's deep littered as she would cost me an absolute fortune otherwise and I like her to have a nice deep bed). Her droppings are really flakey and I can understand how they get easily broken up and scattered as she walks around at night but it is a nightmare! Is there anything I can add to her feed that will just loosen her up a bit - she drinks a large tub-trug of water a night and also drinks about half that much again in the day (she has always drunk lots of water) so I'm guessing its the amount of fibre and roughage thats making her poo like this?? But she looks really well and certainly doesn't need any more energy so I don't really want to start shovelling hard feed into her.
