As some of you know I have got a new pony on loan, She is 39! Along her spine and mane she has flaky skin, it looks like scabs, they don't seem to hurt her and I can't find any cuts. The scabs get caught in her mane, is there anyway I can stop this ? at the moment I am picking scabs out of her mane

39 ! god bless her ! At her age the skin doesn't hydrate as well, bit like humans, my old mare used to have flakey skin, oil in her feed helped, as did a nice warm bath but only on a nice warm day! (I used Johnsons baby shampoo as its mild) and dried of well with tons of towels! a bit of baby oil massaged in helps as well, but be careful in the sun as it will burn, best to put on at night. Also you could try Sporal D its a medicated shampoo from the vets, its not cheap about £10 - £15 and bottle is same size as hibiscrub bottle, but it works wonders.

one of ours gets greasy flaky bits (if that makes sense) on his spine, and we use head and shoulders sensitive shampoo on him. gets rid of it dead easily.

But I would probably check for lice etc first

I'd definately try Camrosa Ointment. Brilliant for things like this. If you buy a starter pack it comes with shampoo as well. I've used it on the Horse, Dogs and myself (oops you aren't meant to but my goodness it worked a treat!).

Then add something to help with skin condition to her feed. I swear by Baileys Outshine but have also heard that Feedmark Equidermis is very good.
If it's lice they are usually really itchy as well and if you hunt about you can see them (yuck!).
