Hi,

Can anyone help me please? Dolly has come in from the field with blood patches on her hind legs. Gave them a wash, and have had a good brush. I can feel lumps under the hair, and they are obviously itchy as you can see the rapture on her face as I was rubbing them. As I am rubbed/brushed, the hair was coming away. Anyone any ideas. It is only on her hind legs, nowhere else. Vet is out next week and will be getting him to have a look for me.

Could be a mud fever type thing. They can get it anywhere the hair stays wet for prolonged periods of time, I 've known of horses with it all over their bellies from lying on wet grass wearing rugs, the rugs keeping the wind/breeze off and the hair staying wet.
You could try washing with a hibiscrub solution, rub in .lather, leave for 10 mins then rinse well and dry thoroughly. Can the horse be stabled for a few hours to make sure she is thoroughly dry for a while?
