Flash nose band help

We managed to pull the flash attacher off from the noseband today (whoops). But never having bought tack before (i share the horse) i am not to sure how easy it is to fix back on?

Is it easier to buy a new one or should i take it to the tack shop to be fixed?

Prefrebly need to get it sorted for tomorrow evening as i have a lesson and Maggie likes to cross her jaw.

Also if i am going to buy a new one what size? I would go straight from work to the tack shop so no chance to measure or grab her old noseband.
She is a 15.2hh IDX quite cobby

So full or cob size?


Don't want to bother the owner as she has just had her beautiful baby who is noe suffering from colic and keeping her awake.... and she has lots of internal stiches.

If she crosses her jaw you would be better off with a grackle. If you don't want to use one, try a drop instead of a flash, much better noseband imo.

How about getting one of these until you can get it repaired? They are available in most tack shops. I had one on my horse until i discovered he went better without it.

I would say it would be easier to buy a new one, if the size isnt on the noseband take the measurement of it and take that with you to the shop and compare

You can buy flash attachments which will be much cheaper than the whole noseband.

Just ask your saddlery for one, all the ones near me stock them

Thanks for the help guys. Although i am upto speed on bits, i have never looked into changing her noseband. What type is the grackle? Is it the figure of eight one?

For now i will ring up the local tack shop and check to seeif they have them flash adaptors in stock and then get it repaired or try something new. Any ideas for nosebands welcome, i am always trying to make her more happy in the mouth!

Yes, the figure of eight one is the grackle, they prevent horses from crossing their jaw rather than just strapping it shut. T has one on in the bottom left hand pic of my sig (though it's not a very clear pic) as he has a snaffle mouth but is an expert at crossing his jaw when excited (hunting, x-country) and it does make a difference. Ask about them at the tack shop, they are very useful as they come into action when the horse tries to croos their jaw rather than constantly keeping the mouth shut. They also allow the horse to breath better than a flash as they sit above the nostrils rather than across it. I'll try to find some info on them for you, hang on on...

I have a 15.1 cob blob whose head is slightly finer than your girl,(second pic in sig ) Her bridle is full size so i would say you need the same.

I left in 2002 so quite a few years back now, I seem to recall a horse called Maggie who was quite new when i left. If shes a grass livery it may well have been her!
