Amber (my 2 year old yellow lab x retriever bitch) has just come back from staying with a friend for a week.

My friend said that she noticed some fleas on her collie and was worried about Amber catching them. Her dog was due his jabs so took him to the vet and asked for some Frontline to treat both dogs.

Her vet replied that he's found that the fleas along the M4 corridor (we live near Taunton) are mostly resistant to Frontline and that he now recommends using Advantix. Has anyone else heard this?

I must admit that I've not really noticed a huge difference after Frontlining Amber and just want to use something that works.

I saw on the packet that it has massive warnings about use near cats. We don't have cats, and there aren't any that Amb is likely to come into contact with, at least not soon after being treated so this shouldn't be an issue.

Any feedback?

Thanks in advance!

I've been using Advantix this summer because the ticks just seem so awful and I was paranoid.

Harley has never had fleas, but he hasn't had a tick since using it either :)

My vet said that cats must not tough it when it is wet. (inlcuding mutual grooming) Only cats he gets close to are the yard cats and he wasn't worried about them (they tend to run away anyway!)

We always use Avantix in summer for the tick protection as there are loads around here. Don't seem to get fleas though. Think we go over to frontline in winter, but it's usually whatever is going cheap...

Someone recommended Advantix to me as it's cheaper and as effective as Frontline. And both are cheaper online.
