Fleas in winter!!!

Only teddy would decide to get his first ever case of fleas in winter during a cold snap!!

i'll cut a long story short (which is a shame actually as its quite funny!!) but i tried to takle him to the vets on jan 2nd after we found them on hogmany but they were closed. i made a mad dash to asda as we were going to a posh hotel for the weekend and taking him with us and bought shampoo and the stuff you put on their neck. i then went to TK Max and bought him a new bed to take away and changed to one of his many other collars and leads.

it didnt work and today i have found that i have fleas too

when i was 10 the doctors thought i had scabies and sent me to the hospital, after many tests they found i had fleas from the cat

ever since all i have to do is look at an infected critter and i get bites - and theyre not just itchy you know, the BURN!!!

i'm digressing, im going to wash him again tomorrow and if they reappear over the weekend i'l take him to the vets on monday.

Has anyone got any advice on teddys fleas, my fleas, how to prevent getting fleas in winter?

oh just a final note - i stayed with my parents over xmas and after he was "de-flead" (or so we thought) he didnt enter their house and went back to mine and hasnt had his proper bed/toys/harness/collars etc back so i dont think they were hiding in my flat 0 i wasnt in it for nearlty a month?

Sorry, but flea eggs can lie dormant for years, until a "suitable" host triggers of the hatching. My guess is you have fleas in the enviroment, which have now hatched. bet you have the heating on at home, this and you and your pets arrival home will of stimulated the little critters. A word of caution re supermarket products some (not all) contain OP insecticides which can be very harmfull, especially to cats and never mix chemicals. Bathing only washes them off and has no residual effect, it can hinder other treatments by removing the oil from the coat. Use Frontline and a household/enviromental flea spray or just Frontline combo, that will sort em

Fleas don't hide away in winter

, your flea treatment would not have worked, if it was an asda spesh, it's the equivlant of a herbal type replacement, u need to go to vets, and get a prescription flea treatment, and a household treatment for his beds, and your skirting, chairs/car e,t,c.
Fleas cannot live on u, they just bite and nick off....and annoy u, and it seems u have a severe allergic reaction to them, many people suffer from this......as opposed to a bit of itching.

Bathing him, will not do any good either........they will survive a normal shampoo and set

He needs a regular yearly flea treatment, that covers the winter months too

My lurcher has fleas all year round if not controlled, I use Frontline from the vets on her and it works well, and (whispers) you don't need to do it monthly, it lasts for about 2. I reapply it when I see her first flea!
I had to spend £50 on frontline last week as when she brings them in the house she also gives some to the border terrier and now the puppy.
