Just had to ask a visitor who's staying if she has any flea bites, to my utter embarrassment she said yes..
The culprit is Harry, who's wonderful platinum coloured coat provides a perfect hiding and breeding place for them. I have used the spot on so many times but still the so and so's return, I think because he swims such a lot it isn't effective.
Tonight sprayed both dogs with frontline spray, is this better than the drops do you think?
Am off to change all the bedding yet again, they don't have dog beds and short of spraying the entire house any other suggestions?
Once they are done with the flea stuff we have a few weeks without any, but around every six weeks they reappear. Both dogs spend a lot of time down a rabbit warren attempting to flush out the rabbits (never any success) so do you think that's what causes the flea re-infestation?

I would certainly use the spray rather than the drops. The spray is immediate although its a pain to do.

Havent had a 'house' flea problem since we went over to floor boards instead of carpets but did have some good stuff to spray round soft furnishings which came from Hyperdrug online pharmacy. Definitely worked but it stank. I used to spray the house and then go out for the rest of the day! If I think of the name I shall let you know.

FLEAS........what fun

I too prefer the spray.
I would treat the house.....otherwise all the new hatchlings will be infesting the doggies once again.....and with this nice warm weather.....they will be out in their droves

I think it used to be called Top and then it was changed slightly so as not to offend those Brussels types who thought we might try and kill ourselves with the chemicals in it!

Sadly it doesnt work.....look what happens when you bath a flea ridden mutt - the fleas just swim about in the bathwater.

I wish there was an easy method and we are mostly floorboards!

sounds like the flea infestation is in the carpets & upholstery rather than the dogs! Fleas are resiliant little monkeys!

you can get flea bombs for all the rooms -but anything breathing (other than the fleas) must come out!!!! You can return a few hours later! Meanwhile all the soft covering must be treated! Use the sprays mentioned nuvan top etc and front line are ace.

You just need to break down the cycle of eggs in the carpet! You can get that tablet that the dogs take rather than spraying them if they love water so much and it makes their blood taste 'different' to the fleas.

Good luck

I use Frontline drops on Boo and the cats, and spray Novartis Staykil on the carpets/furnishings they most frequent- can costs a lot and would need dozens to do the whole house.

I tried flea bombs from a pet shop - just covered the house in grey dust, fleas were unaffected!

I would say though, don't waste your money buying anything from the supermarket as they don't work - it has to be the vets for the effective stuff.

Rabbit fleas are peculiar to rabbits and will not stay on either you or the dogs.
As a retired pest controller, i can advise you that just about all the houses that I treated for flea infestation were infested by cat fleas.
Do you have a cat ? or do your dogs come into contact with cats at all ?

You can treat your house safely with ordinary ant powder. I think you can still get it, I use to use a powder called Nippon.

What you do, is to sprinkle the powder evenly over all your carpets and soft furniture including the stair carpets. Try and co incide the treatment with a night or weekend away so that the powder stays down for as long as possible and simply hoover it up.

If you have a hoover that has a bag in it, it might be a good idea to keep a little insecticide in the bag so that anything living which is sucked up by the hoover gets sorted.
