Do they work? My pony is getting rubbed by his nylon headcollar so I've popped my other pony's fluff set onto his for now, but looking to get him a replacement. I'm looking at either the lemieux sheepskin set, or the fleece lined headcollar. The fleece would be more practical, easier to wash and dare I say it, look a little less ridiculous, but equally, I want it to actually work and stop the rubs! Any experience of headcollar rubs and how to stop them?

Le mieux sheepskin set (just nose and head piece) work on my PBA. To be honest as I'm careful with it and he rarely sweats up in a headcollar, I havnt technically speaking cleaned it other than sponging off the odd thing. (It's about 4YO, taupe so doesn't show too much grub!)

How long or doing what is making the rub? I use a fleece lined which sits well and has never rubbed but having only used it to and from field I can't see it ever rubbing.

I got a fleece lined headcollar for 24/7 summer turnout and it quickly deteriorated and rubbed. The fleece sort of matts up and seems to disintegrate a bit leaving just a hard nylon headcollar which rubbed. The fleece is not easy to clean either, comes up reasonably well in the washing machine but I do not like putting headcollars in the washing machine. Dirt seemed to get ingrained into the remains of the fleece. I found an aerborn soft web headcollar a lot more successful for preventing rubs but I found size wise they come up big.

I got him a fleece lined Lemieux one on the end and I've got the yard to make sure it isn't left on for any longer than it has to be, and until my pony needs his muzzle, he's using his fluff set. If that doesn't work then fluff it is! This head collar has fleece on the cheeks which should at least help. He won't be wearing it for long periods of time at all, thanks for the advice :)

Have a look at the whitaker headcollars, I got one for my delicate skinned paint horse, Its short pile fleece padding but well made tough webbing headcollar with heavy duty steel fixing points fastens on both sides of head, I wash it out as required in warm water and it comes up good everytime there only £20 the leadrope was good too nice and long really tough I absolutely love mine horse is very comfy in it and I travel him in this as well and never had any issues
