They have a bit of a reputation for being very talented but with a bit of an attitude!
What's the horse's history? How old is it?
I've known and ridden many FOs, currenty got 3 in the yard including the bay in my sig and they a carry very similar traits. Not everyone gets on with them and if you dont get on with them there's no point persevering. They can be nappy and appear to quit easily but a lot of this stems from incorrect training when theyre young.

Lots of attitude, like 'waving' alot too

You dont tell them, you ask them nicely

My YOs son has one that ive been riding and hes nice with a lovely loose action and good paces - but he can have a strop if you ask him to do something he dosent want to!

i've got one, homebred 2 yr old. she's weird, was very stroppy, now coming round. i've had to tell her in no uncertain terms that biting and lashing out are NOT on, and she's finally gotten the message.
agreed, she likes standing on her hindlegs and waving, but not threateningly, just to show she can, i think. she isn't frightened of anything...we were moving the field shelter in her field the other day, and she was the first to charge into it the moment it stopped moving, while the others were still keeping a wary distance!

We have a 9 year old mare. She is super (only had her two weeks though have known her for about a year) a bit mareish, but very straightforward, honest, easy and totally unspookable!

Bit mareish in the stable, but nothing too nasty, more faces and threats but not followed through.

She is turned out alone with others next door and doesn't make a fuss.

Daughter did a PC XC rally with her on Sat, chaos, horses gallopping everywhere. Jumped laods of BE Novice fences, weny first, last , whatever, never put a foot wrong or got silly.

I just remember that she is a mare and ask, not tell.

Very talanted athletic little horse with a real ping to her jump. Her flatwork is a work in progress as she just needs to open her stride.

So far, so good!

thank-you, i'll pass it all on. i haven't actually seen the horse so as far as i know..... the horse is a gelding, about 6/7 i think, it went away for training as a 4/5 (ish???) year old and apparently got pushed quite hard. its really sweet until you ride it and it will potter along if you don't ask too much but as soon as you ask a little more (ask it to engage or sit a bit and basically just work a bit harder) then it trows the towel in. think it roots itself to the spot, rears, scrapes the floor, kicks out behind, generally naughty nappy pissed off behaviour. she's getting it nerve blocked all through the back as it does have something which the vet said could niggle it in work or could never bother it at all. so she's going to eliminate that first, and then if its given the ok, set to work trying to sort it out!! (if its not gone beyond the point of no rerturn!)
