Suggestions, please?

I have a 14.3hh cob. I've had 2 different RIs tell me that his bit is tight on him (something I had suspicions about anyway). Current bit is a 6" Neue Schule Wilkie, so I'm now having to look into specially made / draft size bits ( ). He does have very fleshy lips, and dentist has told me he doesn't have an awful lot of space in there - she recommended NS bits for the shaped, narrow mouthpieces.

So, now I'm musing which one to splash out on  Am I best off avoiding loose rings altogether? I'm guessing fleshy lips are easier to pinch?

Both our cobs have big tongues and small mouths, one really prefers a thinner mullen mouth and the other a thinner french link.
If big lips are an issue then I would stay away from loose rings, try an eggbut or full check - the loose ring will be more likely to catch

Mine has quite a thick loose ring single jointed snaffle with biscuits. I figured the thicker the bit, the more area over which pressure is spread. He has stopped being fussy in his mouth since switching from a thinner bit. I think it's worth going up a size. Have a look on eBay for a cheapish big bit to trial.
