good afternoon all. The time has come for me to invest in some flexi stirrups as my joints can no longer last more than half an hour in the saddle (im only 20!). Sadly I cannot afford Sprenger stirrups, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the cheaper brands? I have looked around on previous threads and seen some horror stories of them falling apart but most of these threads are a few years old now so things might have improved. Anyway, if you have any you could recommend I would be most pleased :D

I have a pair of cheapo ones. I think they are cottage craft (they have white treads and arm sleeves). They have held up fine and the difference between using them and ordinary stirrup irons is remarkable. I've actually asked for a pair of Sprengers for xmas, but I've had my cheaper ones for over two years now and they seem to still be going strong so will still be using them on another saddle.

I have some compositi ones with springs under the treads, they are lovely to ride in and only cost about 25 quid. Not traditional looking though.

I have a set I got from ebay for £25 and have used them for 4 years with no problems and find they make a huge difference to the point I can no longer ride in normal stirrups and still be able to walk after. (I have severely arthritic ankles)

I have a dodgy knee after twisting my ankle many years ago (my ankles muscles and ligamets are twisted beyond belief, the pain in my foot if it gets cold is still bad), got to the point of MRI scans and instense pain riding, thought i was going to have no choice but to give up, brought the Sprenger ones and they are brill, I can even do spons rides on a mad beast. Expensive yes, not sure about cheper options but they must all do the same sort of job.
