I'm a mare person, but bought my first ever gelding last year, so not used to dealing with man bits.
This summer, I noticed that his actual man part - he's fond of hanging it down a lot - is raw with fly bites (i'ts pink so they show easily). I've searched, but can only find reference to sheath, not willy. I know there are issues with changing the friendly bacteria on the willy, so I don't have a clue what to put on this, not that he'll let me I'm sure. I am putting fly cream around his sheath area, but this is not solving the willy problem. You would think that he would tuck it away when the flies bite it, but obviously he doesn't.
I can't keep him in during the day, as unfortunately my stables turn into saunas and he would cook. Tried a fly rug, but he's a cob x and got too hot, or do you think being hot is the better option? He has got access to plenty of natural shade in his paddock and he does stand in the shade a lot which is a great comfort to me.
Has anyone had any experience of this? I would hate to go down there later this evening and find his man bit all swollen
