saturday was floddens first KC show. And he had a ball :) stood on his grooming table and surveyed his world. Welcomed his admirers with a lick, was happy to meet every person, and every dog. Most bemused by the groomed poodles in front of him. And delighted to see his friend Milly from ringcraft training. Everyone we met was very encouraging and helpful. Telling us what to do and where we should be. I am now the proud owner of a prize winning Bedlington Pup :) Flodden came second in the Any variery Terrier puppy class. And the judge was struggling to choose whether to put him first or second so it was a very close run thing. The judge came up to me afterwards and said he was a cracking puppy, a little novicey but that was totally expected as it was his first ever real show. And he had high hopes for him as he was a lovely stamp, well built, good conformation and fantastically well behaved, I was so proud of the little chap and he thoroughly enjoyed himself, tail wagging, happy to see everyone.

It was in exeter, Matford. next week we are off to Stroud. his first time up against other bedlingtons. I am going to have to really work hard on his trim this week, as I was lucky no bedlingtons to compare him to on Sat, but next weekend I don;t want him to be the scruffiest bedlington there.

Thank you every one, Poppy as a lurcher was not allowed in :( only registered dogs are allowed in. So she had a lovely snooze in the car.

PucciNPoni yes I did him myself :) A major clipper blade trauma 2 weeks ago as the company kept sending me the wrong blades. Then I had done part of his clip, let him out for a wee and he went on a mission, to squash the cats, took off from the 4th step up and forgot to put his undercarriage down. He came in all grazed down one side a slightly ripped ear, and cuts to his side. So I was praying that would heal in a week so he didn't look too bad. Most healed, just a slight cut to his cheek remained, but not really noticable. He is looking tidy, but I am sure a professional groomer would make him look so much better :( I will have to keep practising a lot! What do you use to pull the hairs out of their ears?

Poor wee fella! Silly booger for trying to be superman!

Re ears: I use an ear plucking powder by PPP -- if there's any sign of canker I go for THORNIT. I either use my fingers or a forcep. Some dogs aren't keen on a cold metal thing in their ear, but some prefer that to fat fingers!

IMO, your grooming looks pretty good -- not many professional groomers will ahve the experience to ring-ready a show dog (unless they actually show them) so keep at it - you'll do fine. They might be able to give you tips on how to get a better scissor finish. But I assume you're getting some help from others in the breed?

If you want a day's tuition (particularly on the beddie), I would highly suggest contacting Colin Taylor at Absolutely Animals (London). Colin is one of the best pro groomers of beds in the world. He is teaching at AA with Heidi Anderton and can really help with the scissoring technique.

But it looks to me you're on the right track. It's been *years* since I've done one!

thanks PucciNPoni. I have got an expert I can call on, a bedlington breeder who did him for me the first time, but she refuses to take any money and I don;t want to keep taking favours so am determined to learn how to do it. I am seeing her on friday afternoon, which is brilliant as the next show is on Saturday :) She is great, just laughs at my mistakes then manages to blend them in and he looks fantastic. I am making less and less cock ups and flodden is learning to sit patiently through my practices, there is just a limit to how many practice attempts I can make as his hair just does not grow fast enough!

Excellent then! Keep at it - and you can make me jealous with your trimming skills (I find bed coats realllllly difficult)
