I thought my horse was picking up a little yesterday but this am found him worse. Swelling had enlarged so called vet out as emergency. He confirms it is an abscess that may be getting deeper seated. Great! Given him antibiotic shot and anti-inflammatory jabs. Plus left me anti-biotic powders and danilon.

I think I'll try and put warm packs over the abscess to see if I can ripen it and draw the rubbish out. I believe the silica homeopathic remedy has helped it change from a hard lump to a softer squish mass which appears to be forming a crown. I never have any damn hepar sulphur when I need it as this is ideal for treating abscesses. Great believer in homeopathy as it definitely complements vet treatment.

He is stabled and looks very down with a depressed appetite. Had loads of cuddles this am. He is finding it painful to lower his head to graze but fortunately can cope with eating from wall manger and haybar.

No competitions for a while as he'll take a few weeks to get over this. But his welfare is more important.

Aww poor horse.I'm sorry if i have missed your previous post about this!!.Has the abcess formed on/in the flu jab injection site??.My friend had this happen to her event horse and the drug company had to pay for all vets fee's and loss of entry fee's.Bacuase it was their drug that had caused the abcess.

Hi Rema

Yes it has formed over the site of the injection. He's had lots of injections in his neck and never reacted to one before. The vet didn't swab the area so may've pushed some dirt in with the needle or it maybe a rogue batch of vaccination.

Did your friends vet report it to the drug company or did the vet?

The vet reported it to the drug company. Why diden't he/she sterilize the injection site??.I would ask the vet to report it to the drug company. If some dirt was pushed into the skin with the needle then fair enough but if it is a rogue batch then they will need to be informed incase anybody else has the same reaction.I hope your horse heals quickly.

It seems they don't bother much with swabbing these days even though I have asked. I asked the emergency vet to ensure it was reported and will be writing to the practice as I'm certainly not paying this emergency vet bill if it is a rogue batch. If it isn't then I'm obliged to pay.

My boy is a bit brighter tonight and hope the 10 day antibiotic powders will do the trick.
