My mare had her flu vaccine yesterday morning. The vet gave her it in her chest.
Anyway this morning I took her rug off and the area where the injection was is swollen (it looks more droopy swoolen than hard swollen if you get me). Its probably the size of 2 golf balls next to each other (one above the other agaist her chest not out from her chest).
She ate all her tea and hay last night and had her breakfast this morning.
Is this normal? she's my first horse so not had to deal with this before.

Wouldn't worry too much, a lot of ours swell up and it goes down after a couple of days. Our cob was done a little 'too quickly' one time and came up with a huge swelling described similar too. Just gave him a little break till it reduced back to normal as it was in his neck and it was sore to the touch so didn't want it being sore with him ridden and using his neck etc.

It will go in a couple of days, but if really worried then just ring your vet for conscience sake

Keep and eye and personally I'd ring the vet. That happened t one horse of mine and it was an abscess from the injection site, ended up on antibiotics and needed it lanced.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I rang the vets and they said to keep an eye on it and if it gets any bigger or is really hot they will need to see her.
So Ive been back down to tye yard and taken some pictures and had a feel and its no hotter than any other part of her so I will just keep an eye on her and hopefully it will go down.

My horse used to react if injection went in neck or chest, one year tried putting it in his bum and he had no noticeable reaction, have done the same ever since!

I was wondering if it was 'equilis prequenza TE' ? one of ours had a reaction to this recently? vet was interested in reactions so as theyc ould report back to manuf.

Just had a look and it was 'equilis prequenza' (just the flu)!!

Same thing has happened to my boy. Called vet today and he advised to just keep an eye on swelling. If it becomes hot, painful to touch or not gone down in two weeks to call him. May need to have fluid drained.

Vet did say to carry on as normal with excercise etc.

Looked at my boy tonight and doesn't seem as swollen, thankfully.
