Just a thought - Does anyone think it is a bit silly that words are printed only on one side of a vest (normally the back). What about the cars coming towards you.....There is no signage to warn them to slow down. I just don't get why it is only on one side....Any ideas????

Presumably because when they are coming up behind you they are on the same side of the road as you. Personally, I think that tabards with "messages" on them are distracting to a motorist, they are too busy trying to read what is on them rather than giving you and your horse the room they should.

Some are too complex, although I do like the ones that give clear direction 'SLOW DOWN' isn't complex and tells the driver exactly what you want them to do - I had one that said 'Please pass wide and slow' and I did notice the difference in drivers behaviour when it had it on.

Yes I know what you are saying about possible distraction. But I guess if it's two very bold words only - IE SLOW DOWN they should not have to spend too long working it out....

It's not the fact that the signage is only on one side

It's the fact that the signs aren't worded right

why say caution young horse when what you REALLY mean to say is "keep away from this horsee or it'll trash you nice shiny BMW"

My mum was riding a big unfit cob the other month, and she had one that said "Please Pass Wide and Slow" on it. Trouble is, her hair is so bushy, that it covered the Please Pass, so she was wearing a tabard that said "Wide and Slow"

Yes, I agree, my horse can be a little wotsit if she wants to in traffic (depending on if she is in season or not)!, so what I have done is bought two with 'please pass wide and slow' on them, unstitched them and sown one of the backs to the front (if you know what I| mean)??? and bobs your uncle, I found it has made a difference. C_B PMSL at what your mum did.

my friend used to have one with really small writing saying "if you come too close to my tail ill sit on your bonnet(sp)" what a mouth full i have a flashing one so it looks like i am a reversing lorry hehe or a big danger sign.

I have looked every where trying to find one with it on both sides. Years ago the one I had was written on both sides. Now I have written it on the front in permanent marker and go over it every 6mnths or so where it has worn off. A lot of the roads we ride on are very narrow so the cars comming towards us are just as close as the ones going in the same direction. Riding a 17hh 4 year old who is quite solid, we need all the room we can get!

The wording definatly work as I have a different reaction riding her with please pass wide and slow on the tabard than I do ridibng my other horse in a plain tabard.

Mine says "Kill Your Speed, Not My Horse!" on the back, which is quite effective.
a possible reason for having nothing on the front is presuming that if a car comes speeding towards you, you can hold up an arm and ask it to slow down, but you cant always do the same thing from behind. maybe...?!
