I watched an item on breakfast tv about fluoride in water and the lady said that it was really bad for horse .I have googled it and there are some worrying articles. In my area we already have fluoride in the water and have for many years.I can't see me getting bottled water for them.lol.What should I do?
I collect rainwater at the moment to soak their hay but worry about that because it comes off a roof made from the corrigated sheet[ can't remember the name] worry they may give off chemicals.
Can you test water for things or put something in water to get rid of fluoride

My husband mentioned this news this morning. So, can they really introduce something that nobody has asked for if it is going to make ill (or worse) ALL equines - except the few that only get rain water? It's a bit like the call to put Folic Acid in bread for any woman who wants to get pregnant.

We already have a number of areas of the UK where the water has fluoride added and these haven't caused any noticeable problems.

The TV reports this morning struck me as being heavy-handed in the way that they tried to balance opinion, unsuccessfully. There was little mention of the potential benefits and plenty of discussion of fears (rather than evidence).

I suspect this is more ammo from the anti-fluoridation camp. There are only two areas in the UK (West Mids and just outisde Newcastle- I forget the exact location) with fluoridated water and I'm pretty sure that it is naturally occuring as opposed to being artificially added.
There is alot of information online but we have to be careful that it is evidence based. The only side effect of fluoride in humans that is scientifically proven is dental fluorosis (mottling of teeth), but would be interested to hear if there is any evidence of side effects in other animals.

I missed tv report but would take it with a pinch of salt (until I see an evidence based study) as fluoride always has been and probably always will be a volatile subject.
