Ruby came in a couple of days ago with a HUGE bite on her face typically just where her bridle goes and again typically I'd bought her a fly mask after turning her out the first hot morning and she got bitten, pro-activity is always best isn't it silly me. Anyway this morning it had started oozing and gone crusty, not infected I wouldn't say as stuff coming out is clear, but I picked it a little cleaned it with salt water and put savlon on it.....does anyone have any other advice to heal it ASAP and to stop her bridle rubbing? Thankyou in advance x

My horse comes out in huge bumps when he gets bitten. I use hydrocortisone cream (you can get it from the chemists) which seems to help the bumps go done quickly but you should not use it if the skin is broken.

I've got tonnes of that...eczema sufferer you see lol never even thought of using that, skin is slightly broken so I wont use it this time but will remember that for the future :) thankyou for the tip!!!

Don't know if you're supposed to do this or not but I've got witch hazel and H generally put it on the lumps as soonas I see them. It seems to work as most of the lumps go down quite quickly. I use it on myself too and it definitely soothes the itch so hopefully it works for them too! Probably get shot down now but honestly never had a problem using it on my two :) x

Oh, I don't use it on broken skin though!
