My little man has a massive lump on his chest, im guessing his a reaction to a fly bite. I've give him 2 antihistamines yesterday and another 2 today but it doesn't seem to have gone down!

what do you guys do? get the vet to come for an injection or leave it a few days to see if they go down on their own? my mare gets small reactions most summers, now shes older and normally the tablets sort her out!

You need about 50 Piriton, a few will not make any impact. I'd suggest a vet for an injection. My horse had a huge reaction a year ago and despite cold compression etc, it has left an obvious lump. I'm gutted, particularly as it's on his showing side for inhand :( I wouldn't risk leaving it and hoping it'll go down.

Check your fly spray and perhaps use it more often or use a different brand. There's a fab recipe on here based on Avon Skin So Soft.

ok cool ill call them tomorrow if its still up then! The problem is he's only fear in the world is fly spray, cream! I put cream on him and he runs away from it! I tried him with spray again this morning, and even holding the bottle on him and rubbing it in once I've sprayed it, to make it a nicer experience was a massive challenge, he was jumping about, running in circles and eventually stuck out at me and tried to bite my face! but will keep trying to get him used to it!

My lad got bitten and I had to get the vet as his whole leg swelled up! The bites weren't anything the vet nor I had ever seen before as was more like a horsefly bite reaction. He had 5 days AB's and bute then back into work 10 days later. He still has the marks on his cannon bone waiting for some fuzz regrowth!! :(

blimey that doesn't sound good! the first time my mare got one it was a big lump, cpalm sized! didn't go down for a couple of days so got the vet out and she just gave her an antihistamine injection and she was fine! sounds really painful on your boys leg though! was he lame too?

My mare occasionally gets reactions like that, and it has to be an injection to get them down.

Can you not put the fly spray on a sponge and wipe it on? If not I'd use a sweet itch hoody or something.
