Not the most exciting post I am afraid but I need some advice... My mare has had a lump under her belly for a couple of weeks it's right on the fleshy part where there is little hair and is about hmm the size of three fingers. I am pretty sure it is a bug bite and when I had the vet out last week for vaccinations I made him take a peek (I bet they love that) He said nothing to worry about and because of gravity it could take a couple of weeks to go down... However on checking this morning its gone hard not solid but definately harder. Should I just leave it?? It's fairly big and she seems sensitive to the touch of it (although she is a bit of a cow bag anyway) although I have someone looking after her for the week I don't want to burden them with something to worry about.. doh! They do have some great timing!!

My horse used to get them too, flies seemed to be attracted to that “fleshy” part you are talking about, (she used to have hundreds of small flies stuck to her and I would have to brush them off) the lumps did take a while to go down and they were quite hard.
I used to have to smother her in fly cream every day in the summer and she had a fly rug on. Are you putting fly cream on it now so that the flies do not irritate it even more?
