My mare is being bitten to death by flies, despite wearing a very good fly rug and being covered liberally with spray. Today she has lots of lumps under her belly and up her sides where the girth would go so I couldn't ride and lunged instead. If you feel the lumps, on some you can feel the bite area, others are just fluid filled lumps - could this be an allergic reaction to the bites elsewhere? Also, tonight, the area directly in front of her teats was quite swollen. Is this mastitis or would that swell her teats and udder more?
her mum suffered badly from sweet Itch, but she isn't itchy as such and certainly not on her tail or mane....although she loves her belly being rubbed at the minute bless her as this is where all the lumps are. I've had the vet in the past to this issue and he just said if she got very bad to give her piriton but it's annoying when it stops me from being able to work her.
Anyone else experienced similar?
