Hello all,

Poor boy is bitten to death around his elbow and all over his privates!!!
He used to love getting it all cleaned but now we are having arguments and threatening to kick me as it must be so sore - trying to gently wash with warm water and hibiscrub.

I know the cooler weather must be around the corner soon, but is anyone else havinh a bad spell of fly bites just now and how are you coping with it???

I tried spraying him with fly spray but they dont really work, the tried to wash and cover with fly gel, but he gets annoyed at me trying to wash it and he is now licking I dont really want to have a fight every day with him! Or should I just keep on at him everyday

Did start bringing him in during the day - but now he has changed fields and also recommended he is out due to muscle tweaked.......... not always possible.

sigh

NetTex Stop Itch Salve is very good, stops the immediate itching & then acts as a repellent & barrier. Mine won't let me put Sudocreme on his sheath if it's bitten, he thinks it stings & won't let me near if I've got an open pot in my hand.

I also find sponging him off with lukewarm water that's had a splash of Lavender Wash added seems to make him comfier.

Sudocream is excellent. I also mix it with a little sulphur and tea tree oil which soothes, heals and puts the flys off. I cover the area thickly with it and then spray on top some of my home made fly spray. Do the cream and spray morning and evening and it does keep the flies off as they can't stand the stuff.

One thing, mine likes to rub his belly so he does get the sudocream into the sheath - no harm but he does need to have it hosed out weekly or he gets a mucky build up. Comes out easily with water and a gentle hand rub.
