Do you guys put flymaks on your horses overnight? It' just my mare pippa seemed quite bothered by the flys on her face this morning. Wasn't sure if having a mask on at night would affect her vision, or is that being over cautious?

I bought my first ever fly mask last week. My boy loves it and is out so much more rather than in the shelter when he has it on. The first day i got it I thought I would leave it on overnight as there are flies around until late and from early around here. When I came to feed him the next morning it wasn't on. I found it dumped at the bottom of the paddock so I think perhaps he was struggling to see with it on - guess it would be like us wearing sunnies through the night. So I now take it off at bedtime and put it back on in the morning.

I'd consider it if I could keep one on Frankie for more than 10 minutes.
He hates any type of rug, mask, boots etc and prefers to be naked at all times. Rugs he can't get off but I've spent too much time walking round fields collecting fly masks or overreach boots so he got his way.

Just done a little bit of reading about horses vision. Turns out their night vision is better than ours but it takes them a little bit longer to adjust to changing light conditions, so if they had to walk into a dark stable it may take them a while to see clearly. So I guess fly masks shouldn't hinder them. Now let's see if pippa thinks this is all a good idea and keeps it on!
