Fly repellant - do you buy it by the litre?

As per post. I am just doing an order to my favourite supplier but have to get 5litres of fly repellant ordered specially - apparently they don't get much call for it!!

Really surprised because even with two horses a litre lasts no time at all.
 
good god no, far too expensive. I make my own. works a treat.

I make mine and with two horses usually use a litre a week so it works out much cheaper. When the horse flies come I just add some power phaser.
 
I buy a small can of Deosect at the beginning of the year and just make up my own dilution as and when I need it. This works out to be most effective and economical method of protection for me, as my filly is highly sensitive the midge bites. And Deosect is actually working! Shock horror!!

what's power phaser?
 
What is deosect? I have tried loads of different ones that don't work on my Highland, including citronella and vinegar. My vet used to sell me DEET which did work and that was very cheap but now I am in France I have to buy it mail order.
