Sorry I know that this has been posted by people before but I'm not sure how to search through old posts! I seem to be spending a fortune on fly repellents that don't work, can anyone recommend a good one that's not too expensive or a recipe for a home made one that works - many thanks.

I get some stuff called Barricade from my vets, dilute it and add some citronella oil. WOrks fairly well for me.

I make my own. Put a small amount (not too much) of washing up liquid into a jug. Add some drops of each of these essential oils - citronella, lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree. The washing up liqid acts as a carrier for the oils. Then add 500 ml of white wine vinegar and mix thoroughly. As a general body fly repellant it works as well as any I have found and saves a fortune.

Think Fly feed daily (or also comes in lick buckets). The flies still land on my boy, but take off again straight away. And he smells of curry when he's warm, bonus, horse and food together! Also working on our Sweet itch girl, not cured her but an improvement.

I make my own and always have done.

1.5 lts of cold stewed tea,
500ml bottle of malt vinegar,
10ml bottle of citronella,
Put it all into a washed out coke bottle and GENTLY shake, then put into a spray bottle on mist setting.Luvvly jubbly job done.
