fly rug or summer sheet?

If the injury is on her throat, a lot of rugs with the necks open up here, so would the injury still be exposed, or would there be a strap rubbing it?
I guess if the neck cover will cover the injury, i'd go for the fly rug. Will keep the flys off, but let plenty of air in. A boett rug would be ideal, as the neck section is a tube and you slide the rug on over the head but they're so expensive this is probably out of the question.

im not wanting a boett rug as they are tight on the neck and i dont want it to be resting on the injury as it needs air! it needs to be loose just also keep the flies off! some rugs have quite loose necks. r

A fly rug would probably be the best and I would recommend the mark todd ultra combo. Not your cheapest option but they have good loose neck covers.
Failing that, how big is the wound? I found that using nugel protects wounds from fly attack as it is like an antiseptic seal that you put over the wound. No good though if the wound is very large and stitched!

I would say fly rug. Most cover the neck and also they'll dry out quicker in the showers. Summer sheets would make her quite itchy, I'd have thought, if it's not a waterproof one (which to me is a rain sheet, but I'm a rug beginner!!).

its not an injury injury which she would need bringing in for, she has a scar which you could maybe see in my sig, but my YM turns out ever morning for us and i ask if she could rub abit of this fly gel into it just to keep them off ( as it works! ) but seems to me she has failed to do so as i brought her in yest and it was covered with them! i cleaned it up and put some cream etc on it last night, but need a rug with a loose neck anyway as they rub on her scar when it isnt split!

(ps. if you look on my sig its just under her mouth, she hasnt got a deformed mouth! )

There are a number of sprays (e.g. silver spray) which will not only disinfect the wound, but also repel insects. Talk to your vet. This could be used in addition to a fly sheet (double protection) or perhaps instead. I agree that you need to keep flies off unitl the wound closes. If you buy a fly sheet, try to get a soft and flexible one that will not chaff the wound.
