Fly Rugs...advice please

I was thinking about getting a fly rug for my new boy, as the flys are really annoying him. he doesn't have sweetitch, just a thin skinned TB!

which rug is the best one to get.

ive got an amigo bug rug
not too expensive compared to some, yet still well made
fits my sports horse nicely, and survived last summer, so thats a good sign

I got one of the soft mesh ones for my girly (also thin skinned TB) had a weatherbeeta one and now on a derby house one!

Do you guys find that they work well? I was considering getting one but I'm worried about the flies getting under it and really annoying the horse.
