So the lady who turns out my boy in the mornings has turned him out this am in his fly rug, and it's pretty much none-stopped raining and forecast more all day. (I did ask her to leave it off him, but she must have forgotten)

So fly rugs + rain does it = miserable soaking cold horse. Or will it offer him a bit of protection from both rain and flys and let him sweat / dry off easily when it stops chucking it down?

In essence is it worse for them than being naked?

He will be fine for a day. Ours go out in them whatever the weather. The mesh ones don't get wet really anyway. Ours only shivered if they were in really drenched sweet itch hoodies and it was windy too..

Thanks! You've put my mind a bit more at ease, I wasn't overly worried, but my non-horsey bf was making me a bit paranoid!

Rambo make a waterproof liner which attachs to their brand of rugs and keeps the rain out. It may possibly attach to other brands, you would probably have to go and have a look at one to see. My friend had one which attached to her Rambo sweetitch hoodie and it was very good.
