Hi

What long term after care do people use on their horse with sarcoids? My horse is having her's removed using Liverpool cream. I wondered if people then keep their horses covered throughout fly season each year to keep the flies at bay or do you leave the horse bare?

Thanks

On advice of vet mine wears a fly sheet. They always wear flysheets on still days in summer anyway but since the sarcoids which were on the inside of her legs I have gone further and bought her one of those snuggy hood sweet-itch fly rugs which have an udder cover which also keeps her upper thighs protected. If on a nice breezy day I would turn out without but slather sarcoid area with protective cream/ gel.

becca1305 thanks for the response, I have a couple of questions:
Have your horses sarcoids been removed and you use the rugs and repellant as a precaution?
Do you find a fly rug as effective as a sweet itch rug?
Does your horse get hot in the snuggy stuff?

Mine had sarcoids on sheath, belly & hindlegs. Completely cleared by several treatments of Liverpool cream about 10yrs ago. The only time I tried a fly rug was when they were really bad just before I commenced treatment, the rug slipped & cut into the sarcoids then he bled all over the rug! Abandoned it after 1 day of use,I never bothered with anything after that as I don't particularly like using fly rugs anyway.
