Fly rugs / Boett & Pagony

Has anyone on here had a Boett rug or Pagony and how do you rate them?

My horse has a broad chest, usually has FAL rugs and his current fly rug is a Bucas Buzz-Off. Problem I've got is horse flies are attacking him and getting under his rug onto his back & hindquarters. I washed his rug Sunday and on Monday it had blood spots all over it and when I took it off there were about 8 horse flies under it and they're huge!

He doesn't have sweet itch. The other reason for having bucas one is that he is coloured and can burn on his white bits and buzz-off has UV protection.

I am thinking of getting a pagony and putting the bucas over the top. He hates the heat but my stables are wooden so like sauna so bringing him in during the day isn't an option. He does have shelter from the sun if he needs it tho.

You views on these rugs or other options would be appreciated.

One of the ponies at our yard has a boet as she suffers really bad with sweet itch and the boet is brilliant,but you should get a original boet and not a copy and they are not cheap but they do work

I was thinking of the Boett or Pagony because of the elasticated area round the legs to prevent the flies getting underneath the rug

That's the main problem really, can see any others that would prevent this ??
 
I have a Boett for a little mare with a big front and it's brilliant. I need to make sure I remove and replace the rug at least once a day as fluff and shavings collect in the belly section and also it does move back on her and was rubbing her shoulders, but that's stopped since I started removing it twice a day. Otherwise it's on 24/7 except when it's washed once a week.

It cost a fortune but has been worth every penny: she has sweet itch, but you'd never guess that looking at her because the rug is doing exactly what it says it does! Also she is totally cooperative about it going over her head, she seems to understand that it helps her. At first she wasn't sure at all about that. I'd also add that she's one of those equines who always has flies buzzing around her, her field mate may have none, but she'll have loads.

Remember that they are not the most robust rugs and need to be kept away from robust fieldmates, tree branches, barbed wire etc etc

I'd love to know how good the Pagony is too, but I haven't come across anyone who has one to ask whether or not it's up to the job in the same way the Boett is.
 
Ive had boets and they are brilinat but they are a bit pricey.

It is as good as the boet its the same material as the boets first rug and theres an addded advantasge as theres three straps that go round the belly peice which i prefer as the boets does tend to sag in the middle.
Also the belly flap is attached to the rug as with the boet it clips on. Its just my peference thats all, its much cheaper as well

I use gold ointment form the sweet itch society for his bits and places that are exposed this is brilliant stuff, well worth getting, IMO.

I had the Pagony for my lad with sweet itch, think it only cost around £50 from Divoza. Obviously the Boett is better quality (but also 4x the price!), but I was impressed with it. I had it on a chunky Welsh D, it didn't rub and was fairly hardwearing.

For a cheap sweet itch rug, I'd definately recommend it.
