So I've just tried on my new purchase of a Derby House 7ft fly rug on my new 16.2 ISH, and it doesnt fit!

He has been out of work so is on the podgy side, however he is getting eaten alive atm so desperatley needs a fly rug. (fly spray is helping but still getting eaten).

Said rug arrived and is lovely, but the belly straps barely touch each other (3 velcro straps), with the same for the front straps. It has a neck and other wise is a good fit.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a deeper fitting fly rug please?

p.s the derby house was only £31.50 and came with a lovely free face mask! :)

thanks all!

I had the same problem with a flysheet I ordered. The witherpad is too forward-cut in it so although the chest straps do up, the witherpad is up his neck and the non-padded back seam lays along his withers and rubs them.

As we have a problem with thefts, I'd already put my phone number on the rug in permanent marker pen so I couldn't send it back. (It hadn't occured to me that a 6'9 wouldn't fit as his Shires 6'9" fits beautifully but has been ripped by his fieldmate).

So I got some stretchy cotton jersey material, folded it in half and made myself a chest expander which I sewed in (left the chest straps wher they were so I don't use them anymore). The rug now has a permanently done-up chest so I just put it over his head in same way you'd put a driving collar over a horse's head.

I also lined the front part of the backbone with another double-folded sheet of cotton jersey.
