Hi, I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction for fly rugs for my horse. I’ve tried so many but they’re all so tight around the shoulders ? he’s built very squarely in front, so despite not being very tall, he’s just so hard to get the right fit. I’ve even tried the next size up but not joy. I can’t be the only one with this problem hence why I’m pleading for any recommendations ?tia ?

Have you tried Ruggles or the Big Horse Shop? They cut specifically for horses built like tanks (I have one too!).

But for Ruggles the smallest size is 6'9 in the heavy horse range, so might not be any good for you.

I also get pointed in the direction of Premier Equine for big shoulders or Weatherbeeta.

Mine's in Snuggy sweetitch rugs till November, and I have to go down a size in those as they stretch.

Hi thanks I’ve not tried Ruggels yet? I’ve tried to get onto the big horse website but it’s not allowing me as it’s saying unsafe connection? Premier equine definitely no good, I’ve spent a blinkin fortune so far, but the PE ones were even tighter than others? he’s not even big, he’s only 15.3, he’s just built like a brick out house with very wide square shoulders. I’m just toying with trying the amigo xl and I’ll have a look at ruggles too thanks ?

Mine's 15.3 too. Measures 6'9 but most brands are too tight on the chest. Weatherbeeta fits him lengthwise but he's so deep barrelled the rug looks like a miniskirt. Shires don't come close to doing up...

The shoulder shaping on Lansdown Rugs is second to none https://www.lansdowncountry.co.uk/products/anti-midge-sheet, especially if their neck isn't as big as their shoulders. I had a whole collection for my horse with a 6'6 back and 6'3 neck opening, his point of shoulder was SO bulky but his neck wasn't big so anything else pulled back horribly. You can see the shaping in his turnout rug here.

Ruggles heavy horse range of fly rugs come up tight across the shoulders - tighter than their normal rugs annoyingly. Big Horse shop should be OK. Amigo XL too tight as are PE.

I'm also going to have a look at the links above. I need fly rugs for chunkies that don't come with inbuilt necks.

The only one I've found that was big enough was Big Horse Shop. Ruggles wouldn't even fasten. Maxima was too tight. Amigo XL was too tight. Big Horse Shop was so bloody huge I probably should have gone down a size. (She's a 6'3" in most rugs; she needs a 6' in Big Horse Shop, or occasionally even a a 5/9".)

Give the big horse shop FB page a message they are very helpful.

I have a lovely zebra print one for my heffalump from there and my spotty will be getting one this spring.

This looks ideal but 12 weeks lead time? they’re made to order here in the uk apparently so that’s a bonus, just not sure I can wait that long ? if I can’t find anything else then I’ll have to seriously consider so thank you for sharing ?

After recommendations on here I went with the Amigo XL but that is for a 16.1hh IDxTB who had huge shoulders and a very deep neck so most top straps sat too high. It’s a bit big everywhere else but fits the front end ok.
