I need to get my filly some sort of fly rug as she keeps getting chewed - also her chestnut colour is looking fairly bleached and she doesn't enjoy coming in through the day. I know the horseware rugs fit her quite well so want to stick with them, but am unsure whether to go for the more expensive rambo one with v clips at the front and thicker material or the amigo one that is a bit thinner - does anyone have any experience, recommendation, the website doesn't say much . . .

Many thanks in advance . . S

i really like the amigo bug rug - it stopped my dark brown horse bleaching last summer and it doesnt rub them at all, because the fabric is quite silky and soft. i didnt like the mesh of the rambo one because it felt plasticy, and i thought it may rub somewhere. having said that tho, it may be more hard wearing.

I chose the Rambo Protector as this fitted round the neck better on my TB using the V clip system (the one in the back ground in my signature!). I tried The Bug Rug and found that it would have garrotted him (I always test a new turnout rug for fitting round the neck by getting the horse to eat something from the ground to see how the neck system fits!). I also thought it would not be durable enough and not let enough airflow through!
He has worn the Protector 24/7 for about 3 weeks now and previously to that when turned out during the day for a number of weeks. I was concerned that it would make him hot, as he is the type that only usually needs a rug when clipped, and found that he does sweat up round the chest area a bit, as this has a silky lining to try and stop the rubbing. I have also found that he has a small rub mark on one shoulder. However this has been counterbalanced by the fact that the flies are not bothering him and he now seems happier and content.
I hope this is of some help?

I bought the amigo bug rug as it is light, gives good all round protection and set at a good price. A neck attachment is also available for it which I bought

One of mine wears the amigo bug rug, he attracts horse flies like bees round a honey pot

I have the Amigo Bug Rug and am really pleased with it. It hasn't rubbed my chunky Hanoverian at all. She also has the waterproof bit that goes underneath if it is going to be wet and that too has caused no problems.

Thank you for all your help - I have bought the amigo as they didn't have her size in the rambo, but will try it on for fit tomorrow morning - I like the v bit at the front on the rambo as it fits her well with all her winter turnout rugs (still quite narrow as she's a baby, well she's 3 and spoilt rotten !!). Anyway, fingers crossed or I'll have to wait for ht rambo to come in and pay the extra !!!
