Can anyone recommend me a good fly rug? Not only is my boy being attacked by flies in the field, but also with him being black he is getting very hot, so a breathable one is essential.

I have looked around and there seems a ride range in the prices between different makes, are the more expensive ones worth spending those extra pennies?

I spent far too long today searching back through old posts about this! i needed 2, a better one for my sweetitchy 4 yr old, and a cheapish one to keep Katy cool. youngster is in an Amigo Bug Rug at the moment, stays cool, doesn't scratch at all, has very very lightly rubbed her shoulders but she's been living in it 24/7 for months. she ripped it but i sewed it up and tbh it's done a good job so far, esp considering the price.
after doing tons of research, i opted for a Rambo Sweetitch Hoody for £92.95, which had a lot of good reviews on here, and a cheapo Saxon Softmesh Combo one for £23.94. cheapest place i could find for those was tds saddlery, fwiw!
the boett ones get great reviews but they're very £££y.

I have the Rambo Protectors on my two black horses, and a Rambo SI Hoody on the grey, and they seem to keep cool and happy in them.
Like all rugs, they do rub the shoulders a little, but other than that they fit well.
The only thing I would say is that the fillet strap tips the sh*t down their back legs - so I take them off and use high class baling twine instead.

Ahh the fantastic bailing twine...has a place on most of my rugs!!

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I'll be parting with yet more money very soon!
