I have a 2yr old cob he's living out at the min I was was wondering whether it is worth buying him a fly rug? He doesnt get sweet itch but the flys are really bad at the moment my homemade fly spray does keep them off but i was wondering whether he would be better with a fly rug aswell? Are they worth the cash or will fly spray be enough?

I've never really found a fly spray that does much! Fly rugs can be good, but a lot of them slip or rip really easily.

Do the flies bother him that much? My two sport horses get eaten alive by them, and come up in lumps, so they have fly rugs on. Our little cob doesn't seem to be as bothered by them, and wouldn't have a fly rug on if he didn't have sweet itch. I think if it aint broke, don't fix it, but if you need something, then generally fly rugs are cheaper..

If he's really bothered by the flies I would. I've had to get one for mine this year as flies eating him alive (especially horse flies) I'm also going to start using deosect on him from today xx

I would only if he seemed really bothered. They look like nasty things to be wearing when they get dirty, and it is so hot the horse is sweating, ugh. Better to just stable during the day actually IMO if it is so bad.

Hi

Fly rugs are much more effective than fly spray. I have had a weatherbeeta one and an Amigo - Amigo are far superior - stay in place much better.

Mine never get hot in the fly rugs.
