Fly sprays

Tried Leovet Power Phaser for the first time yesterday and was very impressed with it. Seemed to last most of the day (at a competition).

I'm currently putting one called Stinky Stuff in the ears of mine to prevent those awful biting flies that like the ears. So far so good, I put a bit inside/on the edge of each ear every 3 days and no bites or head throwing since we have been using it. It does say you can make it up into a fly spray, but I've not tried that yet.

Leovet Power phaser is very good and lasts around 7 to 8 hrs before you have to respray. Smells a bit like a stale ashtray full of cigarette ends. Neither wonder the flies don't like it!

Always used phaser. But this year have started using deosect. It is £ 30-40 but you dilute it so works out very cheap. It stops flies bitting but not landing, so I add citronella, tea tree and lavender which makes it fabulous. All my yard are now using it

Does anyone know if there's anything else in Leovet Power Phaser besides the two ingredients listed on the site? Like are there any fragrances or oils etc?

What percentage of citronella etc. do you add? It is so annoying (for human and horse) when the pesky flies and midges just keep landing and taking off then landing again - anyone who says their horse can't feel a light aid has never watched a horses reaction to the feel the feet of a tiny midge touching its skin! . Does your mix work on sweaty horses while riding? Need something to keep the midges away and the deosect on its own only seems to partially help.

Thank you Darkwater and OldNag! I'm trying to find something to use too but I don't want any other "stuff" in it besides the active ingredients so this sounds good!

i contacted power phaser yesterday as my boy is sensitive to some things.

this is what they replied:
In the Power Phaser, DEET and IR3535 are the actives. It contains alcohol (2-propanol) and the scent of the product is
induced by essential oils.

sadly deet is one of the ingredients that my boy doesnt do.

theyve also bought out a new one

TamTamVet which contains actives from nature: Geraniol and Citriodiol (from eucalyptus citriodora). It is free from alcohol and contains as scent a natural essential oil .

If anyone has tried the TamTam let me know if its effective

we have just this week started trialling the effol one (not the horsefly spray the standard fly spray) as it has neem oil in it, and so far so good.

will be interested to see how it fairs in the hotter weather.

I always used Phaser and it does appear to stop flies but when I took my horse on holiday it didnt help with the midges. Neem oil (Pro-Equine) seems to work but it smells worse than phaser!

We have terrible midges - those nasty little black ones which stick in and stay there. They drive the horses mad and we struggle to find anything to keep them off. Someone has suggested Neem oil, but one of the horses is a broodmare. I have researched online into Neem and see it can help stop flies from breeding, but also that it is used in humans to stop fertility and induce abortion so I am somewhat reluctant to use it anywhere near breeding horses. Can anyone shed any more light?
