Omg we have had swarms of them in Hertfordshire in the last few days, the horses are literally covered in them, I can't open any doors or Windows they are awful at the moment.

Any one else got them?

My ponies had loads on them the other day. As quickly as I got them off more landed. Fly spray made no difference.

The weather is making them swarm. They are not flies so fly spray won't impact them. You can get them with a pyrethroid based ant killer - but not on a horse's skin! Limited consolation - but they don't bite. They are just exceptionally annoying. The swams should be over in a few days. If you see them on the ground preparing to swarm you can deal with the nest by pouring boiling water on it. Easier to do in a domestic garden than feilds!

We have had a nest in our garden before but I don't think they are coming from it this year, I googled it last night and apparently the met office could see swarms of them on the satellite that they did initially think it was rain, so I suppose they are just worse this year.

We have them under our living room floor and they come out whenever the weather is really nice. :(
This year in May when we had them for weeks I put ant powder down the cracks between the floor boards, it seems to have worked, time will tell - or maybe the weather this week.
