Well I took on some advice that was given about flying changes, and today me and Toto managed about 5 correct changes! We used a pole on the ground, and changed leg over it. He got incredibly fast and excited, I had no brakes because he was being strong

I have no idea why flying changes make him so razzed up

But oh well, we can do flying changes now

Here's a few clips of the changes, please ignore my riding I'm not used to him being so speedy and I know when I asked for a change I have a really bad habit of throwing all my weight over to one side, I'll have to work on not over-riding them so much

when teahing a horse a flying change it needs to be understood why we are teaching them.if it is to improve the sit on the hind end or the collection needed for higher level dressage, then this is a step foward. oftern though people teach a horse a flying change before it is ready. this is where you get what is happening in your video. your horse is loosing ballance and is rushing off on the forhand to find it again, the canter will always suffer when you first start teaching it chnges, i have a suspission though that your basic canter is not good enough for this exercise, as you are having to force the bend to throw him onto the opposite canter. if you can make your horse do a flying change on a straight line then you know you have it. i would suggest you came back and teach him counter canter first, then simple change, when you have that sorted go back to it. don't make the same mistake a did. i taught my horse them to early and for years i could not get him to canter a diagonal line properly.

I wasn't actually teaching him to do flying changes, I was seeing if he could be proper flying changes, and he can.
He normally has a much better canter, we are currently trying a new bit and he refuses to take a contact and go round in it. We are looking for a new bit now.
He was actually so excited and fast that I wasn't really used to it and I did explain the reason why I was over-riding the change, and I am aware that I throw my weight. I said I would work on it.
I only had a go for a laugh, and I will never use flying changes in everyday riding.

But thanks for your concern
