Planning to take the overgrown donkey to a few *local* shows this summer to get her out and about and seeing a few things with the hope of doing PAVO at the end of the season.

Very few of our local shows doing youngster classes (can only think of 2 infact and one of those is a hunter class!) so what inhand classes would she be suited to? Was thinking riding horse, inhand lw hunter etc

Any ideas? Not in it for the placings but don't want to make a total &^$£ of myself!

You won't have that many classes to choose from locally - sometimes it is just "to make over 15hh" and that covers hunters, riding horses etc. I would enter her both for hunter and riding horse. There is a very fine line between a large riding horse with a bit of substance, and a finer type of LW hunter. There is one very successful one which has competed at both HOYS and RIHS as a riding horse and hunter, so no reason why you can't do the same locally!

It will be good experience for her to go to some shows and have a look around before she starts her ridden career.
 
Cool, thankyou. Will now have to wait for schedules to come out. Then I'll probably be needing more advice as I really don't know much about showing, especially inhand!
 
I suppose it depends on your definition of local, but we're fairly well served for youngstock classes locally, and I wouldn't be too bothered about just doing sport horse classes, she'll do well in hunter youngstock stuff.
Of course if you really want to do the Sports horse stuff you could always have a bash at B&W

Cheltenham show is lovely and pretty close, I'll have a think about others.
 
Unfortunately I mean really local (local village type things) as Im dependant on a few friends giving me lifts (no transport

). If she goes well I may take her to Berkeley show in august....
