Right, can you explain this to me as you seem to be the oracle on such things.

How come farmers are compensated for FMD but now Bluetongue has been declared an "outbreak" farmers are not going to be compensated for lost stock?

Is there going to be a shift from culling now they've officially decided the disease is circulating, meaning we'll be leaving animals to see if they recover naturally?

Fred the chief vet on friday stated that there would be no compulsory culling for bluetongue (as there isn't any point as the disease isn't directly spread animal to animal) - hence no compensation

but for fmd they are still busy killing - another farm over the weekend and 4 contact farms today according to the news

however the gov. didn't know until someone pointed out to them that the UK is entitled to claim money from eu funds to help with 'clearing up ' fmd - so presume that means that some of the compensation costs to farmers for fmd slaughtered livestock will come from eu coffers (of course now the fact that we over contribute to the eu compared with a lot of other countries is a subject for another discussion !!)
