Just had our first foal and would like some advice on the best places to take him. I've heard of the bef futurity are these any good and worth doing?? Any other sugestions would be great especially any classes or events in the south west.

I also have a german bred mare that i would like to grade any sugestions for the best uk stud book to go with?

Had some experience with AES and not very impressed,is this just me???

Thanks very much sorry for all the questions!!!

If you check out the BEF web site under the breeding section ther are fact sheets on the futurity.

Your young one will be evaluated and given a score. over 9.0 is fantastic, over 8.0 is great and 0ver 7.0 is good, the fact sheets will explain all.

Hops this all makes sence

The fururity is great, they give you helpful and extensive feedback about the foal/ young horse and then you are given a premium:

Elite: average score over 9 out of 10
1st: over 8
2nd: over 7
3rd: over 6

I am hoping to take my two foals there this summer, to The Grange.

It's a good way of finding out the quality of what you have compared to other breeders if you are not sure.

Re your choice of uk stud books, either the British Hanoverian Horse Society or British Warm Blood, or what ever they are called now. If your mare is registered Hanoverian she will be accepted by the BHHS but will need to be graded into the BWBS, if she is registered something else she will need to be graded into either one. You can do this at the society shows or there are mare and foal gradings during the year too.
