foal eating dam's tail? help please

hi, i have never had this before. i have a foal and she is eating away at her mums tail. her mum had a really thick tail and half of it is gone. what can i do to stop her, also will be weaning next month dont want her to rat her new field mate tai, when i wean her. thanks in advance
