Going to my first foal grading next Thurs with one of our foals. I'm incharge of the mare, but having never been to a grading before I haven't a clue what I'm doing.
My boss (who will have the foal) said we basically, walk a triangle with foal being lead behind. Stop so they can look at the foal, then the foal is let off and I trot mare round the triangle, walking the corners, with foal trotting after us.
Does that sound about right?
Also we handlers were going to wear biege trousers with white poloshirts does that sound ok?
I am bricking it and I'm not being judged!

Yep basically right, if the foal goes the wrong side of the mare stop and get them back to the inside and dont run the mare too fast or the baby will canter the route. Good luck and see you there!

Brill thank you. I will be carrying a schooling stick so I can get foal back to the inside, have been practising that.
I'll look out for you, which mare/foal are you taking?

Which one are you going to? If it is the Futurity next Thursday at Catherston then what you have been told so far is incorrect in quite a few details and you need to consult the rules. In any case do not have a set procedure that *will* happen fized in your mind before you go ino the arena. It is far more important to listen to the judge(s) and the judge steward and to do what they tell you than follow what you (or your boss) thinks is what should happen.

My boss judged it last year so we are hoping it hasn't changed that much in a year. We will obviously listen to the judge and do what they want us to, we just want to be a little prepared.
