Foal grading - total numpty help please!!

I've bred a super foal this year, and several people have suggested I should get him graded... now, I know absolutely nothing at all about how this would work. He's not currently registered with anyone, although will be British Warmblood registered as soon as he's big enough to be microchipped (vet suggested about 5 months old). Mare is HIS (or whatever they're called now!) but not pure bred (IDxTB).

Ideas and help please!! Is there a specific warmblood show, or are there more general sports horse type gradings? What do they actually grade? what are the benefits of taking him?

Apologies to sound quite so clueless, but really do have no idea!!

you can microchip at a much younger age mine was done at 2 weeks old no need to wait till 5 months

That would be Sports horse breeding (GB) that replaced the HIS I think.

You could do BEF Futurity next year as a yearling.

i agree with BEF futurity, they have them all over UK, also if your foal gets a certain grade then the mare gets a broodmare certificate (stating she has had proven offspring) which is always good if your horse goes lame and can only be a broodmare or something

Another one for the BEF Futurity Gradings. I took one for the first time this year and it was a fantastic experience

I was told by the SHB GB that they don't grade foals. As i was going to get mine done.
I went to the BEF Futurity this year a great experience.

Who is your foal by and what sort of papers/passport will your foal have? Just to be clear - you can't get get a foal "graded" as in the way you'd get a stallion "graded" but you can have them assessed and get some very useful feedback from the Futurity. Would be a good place to start with your foal though you will have to wait till next year now. Also aggree that you do not have to wait to have foalie microchipped - easier to stop them wriggling about when they're little plus remember kittens and puppies get chipped and they are much smaller!

Thanks for all the advice guys!! Shall definately go for the Furity next year

He's by Treliver Decanter out of an ID/ TB mare. Looking amazing at home so would be lovely to see whether I'm right (or more probably just biased!)

Will also get the microchipping done asap too.
