Recommendations for rug brands that fit foals well - I need a 5'3 lightweight. She is in a 4'9 Amigo at the moment, with Heath Robinson chest extenders, but I have a 5'6 (I think) Amigo and although it would be not too bad lengthwise with a bit of careful strap adjusting, it is massive on her neck. I've found a Shires Tempest Original Lite Turnout Rug for a decent price and wonder if the neck on this would be a bit smaller?
She has a lovely Amigo adjustable foal rug, but they only seem to make them in mediumweight :-( and I can't find anyone who makes bigger rugs designed for foals.

Please, please, no comments about foals not needing rugs!

I use Horseware Amigos for foals as I find they fit best, but once they are yearlings and taller I find Weatherbeetas fit the best (I don't generally like WB rugs but for youngsters they fit well).

My foal is in a rug (and she's an Exmoor!! She had a chest infection in late Nov and I am not taking any chances in this weather) and she doesn't fit conventional foal rugs as she is too big around the tummy so I have had her in those Rhinegold pony light weight rugs you can pick up on ebay for about £30. She has so far had the blue Dottie one in a 3'9 with a chest extender and is now in the pink Dottie one in a 4'3 - she has stayed dry and warm throughout the rain and the neck is a nice fit. The straps aren't on the smallest fit so there would be room to make the tummy and legs smaller (although I removed leg straps and put a fillet string on)
Good luck!

Rhinegold also seem to fit my foals, just their ordinary rugs, not foal specific. Mine, like exmoorpp are Also natives, not sure if that makes a difference, but the cut seems to suit them.

I've found either Rhinegold or have recently got a mark todd pony rug for Milo and it fits really nicely - very impressed with it and was nice and cheap (under £40 new for a medium weight combo)

Thanks all! I looked at the Rhinegold ones, but found a thread that slagged them badly. Perhaps they fit foals better than adult horses?

I have a friesian filly, but shes small around the chest whilst 5'6 in lenght! Ive found Saxon & Rhinegold the best. For the stable the shites pony warmer range fits her well.

We have Rhinegold on our "adults" as well as babies, and fit them very well, and wear well.
Mine are all Welsh D, so maybe it's just that they are native, though are different types of the breed, so their builds aren't all the same.

I tend to stick to combos as find them smaller on the chest than standard necks, and Saxons and shires have been the best fits on my welsh D youngster. Saying that rhinegold fit him lovely at the moment, he's 21 months now x
